By reading the title you probably have a picture of a nun in her religious attire. That is considered a habit but that is not the habit that I am referring to here. :-) Habit by way of definition means, ‘an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.’ - Dictionary.com. It seems that we have a normal tendency to get tired and bored from doing the same things day in and day out. However, if you look at the lives of very successful people, that is one thing that they all have in common. They have set routines, schedules and practices, it is in doing the repetitious things that we begin to master and understand what we are doing. Once you master a thing you can now find ways to improve upon it.
We know that yet… we still don’t want to invest the time that it will take to develop and train ourselves. Well, I have a secret to share with you. You are being trained each and every day; the question is are you doing the training or is something/someone else training you? Let me give you a clear example of this.
Take a mother and her child; we will use a son in this illustration.
Here is the conversation/scenario:
Mom: Son come here
Son: Okay
Mom: Now
Son: Okay
Mom: Come here!
Son: Mom, I’m doing something, hold on
Mom: Boy, if you don’t get down here Im going to come and get you.
Son: Okay, just a sec..
Need I go on? Funny is it not? Tell me whose training whom? It looks like the son has trained mom to wait until he is ready to come to her.
Now the same scenario with dad:
Dad: Son come here
Son: On my way.. (and he arrives in light speed timing!!)
Looks like dad did the training!!
So see again, we are always being trained but did you notice that when the son was training mom, mom had/carried all the frustrations and was upset. Well, normally this is the way we will feel because we are not doing what’s needed. When are we going to get off the Ferris Wheel and stop repeating the same mistakes, same ‘oh, I can’t believe I did it again’? It is as simple as choosing to get off. Yes, that easy! Just like you paid your fare to board the ride you can just exit right off!! The choice is up to you. Life changes and we have to do the same; however, the direction that we decide to go should be our own choice!!! Recommit to yourself that this is going to be your, in the words of my dear friends, Darryl & Cynthia Washington, “Your Best Year Ever!!!”
